Banju Church

In Jeju Island in South Korea, there is a church that is called “Noah’s Ark” and “Church on the Water.” It was built in 2008 by Itami Jun, who was the Korean residents in Japan.

"No building that truly moves the heart can be created without reflecting life and a strong foundation. Placing the warmth and life of humanity at the base of a work. How can you perceive the tradition, context and essence of a region, and how will that be conveyed in a building that is to be created? The important thing is to listen to the language spoken by the topography of the land and the 'voice of the wind'

The mirror pond represents the space that the sky meets the ground and he spread pebble in the water.

The church looks as if the ship is sailing along.
Windows go up the side of the building, so when windows are opened, this looks if as the boat is being rowed over the waves.

In the back of the building, there is shape of cross.

This is the inside of the Bangju Church and this has a seating capacity of 150.

The shining roof of the church is made of metal and it changed appearance depending on viewing angle
